Where does Dr. Su see patients?
Dr. Su provides care at three offices:
- Long Beach: Monday, Friday, and the 1st, 3rd and 5th Wednesday
- Koreatown: 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month
- Beverly Grove, at Comprehensive Urology: Tuesday and Thursday

I see Dr. Su in Santa Monica. Where do I go now?
Dr. Su is no longer seeing patients in Santa Monica after mid-November 2026. If you would like to continue your care with her, please call her Beverly Grove office at Comprehensive Urology, (310) 278-8330, to establish care there. Insurance in Beverly Grove is not the same as in Santa Monica, so ask about your plan when you call.

Can I email the office?
Yes, at care@jsurology.com. Please don’t use email for urgent symptoms. Call the office instead, or 911 in an emergency.
Does Dr. Su speak Korean?
Yes. Dr. Su speaks conversational Korean. She sees patients at the Koreatown office on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month.
Insurance and referrals
Will insurance cover my visit?
Insurance acceptance depends on the office.
- Long Beach: Dr. Su is in network with PPO plans from Aetna, Anthem Blue Cross, Cigna and UnitedHealthcare, with CENTER IPA, MemorialCare Independent Physicians and MemorialCare Medical Group, and with Medicare.
- Koreatown: Dr. Su is in network with PPO plans from Aetna, Anthem Blue Cross, Cigna and UnitedHealthcare, with CENTER IPA, and with Medicare.
- Beverly Grove: Dr. Su is in network with most PPO plans and with Medicare.
Please call the office you plan to visit to check that your plan is in network. The insurance page has more detail.
Do I need a referral?
That depends on your insurance plan. Many HMO plans, and plans managed through a medical group or IPA, require a referral from your primary care doctor before you see a specialist. Many PPO plans do not. If you are not sure, call the member services number on your insurance card, or ask the office when you call.
Does Dr. Su take Medicare?
Yes. All three offices are in network with Medicare. If you have a Medicare Advantage plan, which is run by a private insurance company, ask the office about your specific plan.
Your first visit
What should I bring?
- Your photo ID and insurance card
- A referral, if your plan requires one
- A list of your medicines, including vitamins and supplements
- Recent test results, such as PSA or urine tests
- Imaging reports, and the images on a disc if you have them
- Any pathology (biopsy) reports
What happens at the first visit?
Dr. Su goes over your history, test results and imaging with you, and pulls up your scans so you can see them too. She explains what she finds in plain language and goes through your options, including those that don’t involve surgery.
Can I get a second opinion?
Yes. Bring your pathology report and your imaging (the reports, plus the images on a disc if you have them). Dr. Su will review them with you and go over all your options.

Where does Dr. Su operate?
She has privileges at these hospitals:

- Long Beach Memorial
I’m scheduled for surgery. What do I need to do?
First, see your primary care provider for a pre-operative work-up. It must be done within 30 days of your surgery and at least 2 days before it, so the paperwork arrives in time. The full checklist, including which medicines to stop, is on the Before your surgery page.
Which surgeries does Dr. Su perform?
Robotic, endoscopic and open surgery for the prostate, kidney, bladder, ureter, urethra, penis and scrotum. See the list of surgeries. She does not fit pessaries or perform pelvic organ prolapse surgery.
Can my family stay with me on the day of surgery?
Family members or friends may stay with you until you go into the operating room. While they wait, they are told when surgery starts, every 2 hours during it, and when it is complete. If you wish, Dr. Su can talk with them about what she found.
Urgent problems
Call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room for a medical emergency. For urology, that includes a fever with a kidney stone, being unable to urinate, testicle pain that starts suddenly, and heavy bleeding with clots.
Should I call the office or go to the emergency room?
Go to the emergency room for any of the problems above, or anything that feels like an emergency. Don’t wait for a call back or an email reply. For questions that can wait, call the office where you are seen.
